one question - i know the source is formatted as xml but is there any way of getting the source formatted as AS3? say if i created a scene via this app and wanted to export the data to flash cs4 for perhaps a new website, how would this work? would that involve loading an xml file into the code to load the scene?

WOW! I started something very similar a while back but the project took the back-burner to some other things. This makes my attempt look so primitive! Excellent work, this thing is amazing! I can’t wait to see where you take it from here. Will collada models be in the next release?
great job!
Delicious and lovely, can’t wait to try it!
This is amazing! Wow. I’ve just had a small play and can’t complain about anything, the app looks and feels like a traditional 3d package. I’m wondering: have you come across Adobe Air before? (http://www.adobe.com/products/air/). It may not be the way you want to go with the application, but it would certainly benefit from access to the local filesystem.
Again, a real well done. I’m blown away!
Amazing work. I’ll check it out. It’s definitely something to admire no matter what the outcome is.

In response to dome and the suggestion to export as a Class…
Currently this is unavailable, although much thought is going into the test engine and how to make something flexible and easy to use. The idea is make something useful and extensible.
In response to Rowan and the suggestion of making it an AIR application….
When the application is more developed it will be converted to an AIR application. There are several updates in the works and after it becomes a bit more stable it will be upgraded.
In response to CodeJockey comment on collada models…
Collada models are on the wish list. I am looking into what kind of manipulations would be available. I see no difficulty in adding them in however the interface to position, rotate and scale them just needs to be fleshed out and tested.
Damn the interface is like a video game this is sweet. Looks like I gotta master yet another 3D program for Flash :)
In response to Richard Forbes-Simpson and the output XML….
The test/publish engine is being worked out. I always considered VizualPV3D a layout tool rather than a Papervision3D solution. Any code it could create may only be a good initial starting position as it is just far too much to accommodate all interactive possibilities. However, your suggestion certainly crossed my mind before and is food for thought.
In terms of exporting a scene for a web site, VizualPV3D xml can help in the construction of a final Papervision3D scene, although the final AS3 code to build the scene will have to be developed by your team.
In order to run VizualPV3D, you shall need the Current Flash Player, version 10.

it looks really nice… I poked around with it and it looks like right now you just get the xml stuff… AS3 would be a lot better… But its
clearly something you are working towards… Adobe AIR also would be a good thing to use because yes you need to access the local file
system…
I always wished Blender had something like this… in fact… there is a plugin for blender that does convert to papervision3d…
really flash needs to embrace the direction of 3d flash more so papervision3D or away3D becomes a part of flash rather than outside
stuff if nothing but for the use of exactly the kind of tools you are trying to illustrate here..
I also wish there was a more intuitive control of camera and perspective movement…. perhaps something more like blender…
In response to Nicolas and issues in general using VizualPV3D….
See my entries to download the latest Flash Player [ Version 10 stand alone ]. It will not run in a browser.
There have been a few issues reported relating to PCs and opening files. These bugs are being tracked down and a fix should be in place in upcoming versions.
In the upcoming version, you shall see changes to the interface and to several of the panels. The Plane Panel will be able to create a wider variety of plane types including Phong, Gouraud, Flat Shade and Cell Shade. The tool bar will be more stream lined with similar control for Planes, Primitives, Camera, Camera Target, Light and Groups.
Several interface bugs have been tracked down and fixed. I will post upates here when a new version is available.

better error detection, taking care of incorrect paths to assets, and even asset replacement, allowing the load to continue freely
updated plane creation panel, with additional plane types
additional interface extras for helping work flow

I read the comments above but im new in papervision. so i’ve one question:

Ofcourse i checked google with my problem but i cant find a solution.

you would really help me out with this.
Thank u!
In response to sjaak….
For now…. the only thing you will get is XML… The test engine is still a few months off. There are no pre packaged ways to use the XML…. yet.
The XML will be very useful to those who can use it. In the future I have in mind a test / publish engine that will parse the XML, load the files and give a good basic Papervision3D environment to view your work. I am just in the process of seeing just how much to provide as open source and how much as a package. ETA is going to be about 3 or 4 months though.
[...] Eee-youch, my ego hurts after seeing this amazing feat of programming. Gary Stasiuk has created a 3D program and its all within a .swf! Here’s his site’s official [...]
Pretty sweet finally time to comment. Great start. I would say that making it an AIR app would be cool.
Also it is set to scale the stage. You should set it to no scale so you don’t have to have it full screen all the time. stage align top left and draw gui based on size. If not when you shrink it down it doesn’t keep aspect ratio and it gets anti-alias blurring.
Very cool though.
In response to drawlogic…
Have to say, currently I prefer the full screen… I actually do not perform a redraw on resizing, so hence the blur… It creates the aspect ratio on start up. I’ll look into that and see if it isn’t too hard on the processor. I still have many things I am working on so that will remain low on the priorities. However, I will log that and look into it later in the pipeline.
that’s amazing! i’m sure i will use this application a lot at work.
and i think it would be even cooler if it was released as an air application ;)
Hi,
very nice tool, but what is the purpose if it cannot export as3 ?
Would be really a great starting point for creating complexe scenes.
Thx and keep up the good work.
Cheers.
I can’t wait for the animation engine to be finished! The only thing other that a full animation engine that this program needs is some way to export the scene as AS code so you can use your scenes in other projects as well. Other than that, this is the best Flash 3d animation tool EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anywhere in the web mentioning 3D Flash development lead me to this page. No wonder, the project is on the head of this technology!
As a game developer, regarding the AS3 code generation issue, I’d like to suggest that VizualPV3D only export the code for a static scene — no animations, advanced effects, camera manipulation — nothing else.
Doing it the simplest possible way would incentive 3D development, affecting drastically the number of 3D Flash websites.
At least that’s what I think, since we essentially need every object well displayed, to then worry about events in detail, directly on the code.
From Brazil, all the best for the future of VizualPV3D!
Excelente, fantástico, realmente que es lo que están fumando estas gente,
los felicito, gracias por compartir con todos.
very nice idea.. bt .. for a flash developer.. xml is just one of those tins… it makes the end of part 1 more complicated for part 2.. u did a good job.. dont get me wrong.. but give us the code in AS3 format… tanks.. i mean. life was meant to be a lot easier… keep it up guys..
I know, I know… you explained it many times already… but in order to mass distribute something really cool like this, it must be in dummies language!.
So… I downloaded Papervision source files for flash. I have played with a few tutorials and gotten working stuff, so it seems I have the papervision code properly installed and working… and I still can’t figure out where to put the output xml code.
Can anybody give me a straight answer like “You need to create your own xml parser like this link” or “you call your xml in this line inside a code like this”, you know… something to start with. Don’t worry if it’s too complicate to explain we’ll still burn our eyelashes to make it work, but at least it will be on testing instead of trying to install it.
I know there a tens of places where explain detailed instructions but there are zillions of people like me (and probably you too) who start learning from the middle up, and like to taste a little bit before even deciding to get into it. Something to pop the adrenaline up while researching hundred of tutorials.
Remember: The power of tools like this is not in being one of the few gurus who master it and keep the secret but the Zillion of 3D developers population who votes VisualPV3D rather than some future Adobe app. (May be yours, leading Adobe’s)
Congratulations. Amazing project and great work here in the gallery.
In Response to Sergio…
Well… I do not mean to be the bearer of bad news…. but… currently there are no pre-packaged ways to use the XML. You will currently have to write your own parser.
That being said, please remember that VizualPV3D is still in Alpha. I have been putting my free time into this project and making wonderful headway. There will be a new Alpha to release in a few weeks. That alpha will have an improved interface, error checking, and many other interface updates and additions. I just completed adding a Collada importer for instance, although I am still bug testing it and hopefully will be adding an interface to update materials on the Collada objects. So far so good… But that is not released yet.
So back to the XML and this release. The reason I released VizualPV3D as an Alpha for public use, is because there are developers and designers out there who could really use that XML to help them with their projects. Potentially, a big help. In the future, this application will do more, and if possible, give you a way to parse the XML for your own projects and easily get your 3D spaces running in a usable way. I am working on charting that territory now.

The warehouse house numerous models that you can use in your projects it is easy to import the files into sketchUp the warehouse browser allows you to save your files as colloda or google earth files. You can also model your files in sketchUp. To convert a model from a .kmz file to a colloda file is easy all you have to do is export the file as a .KMZ file or the native format for google earth. Once you have exported the file to your desktop you can right click on it rename the extension from .kmz to .zip the kmz or google earth file is a zip file once you open it you will see your model files and the colloda or .dae file this file is really a simple .xml file that describes your model.
